Frequently asked questions

What is X Radio Stream Finder?
X Radio Stream Finder is a free portable Windows application for browsing and playing internet radio stations. It searches the Radio Browser community database which contains over 35,000 active stations across every genre, country and language. You can play streams directly inside the app, save favourites to a personal playlist, and export or import M3U and PLS playlist files.
Does it require installation?
No. X Radio Stream Finder is a single portable .exe file. Download it, optionally place ffplay.exe in the same folder for the built-in player, and run it. No installer, no admin rights, no registry entries. Works on Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11.
What is ffplay.exe and do I need it?
ffplay.exe is the playback component of FFmpeg, which handles the actual audio decoding and streaming. It is optional - without it, clicking Play opens the stream URL in your default media player (VLC, Windows Media Player, etc.). With it, streams play directly inside X Radio Stream Finder in a seamless built-in player. ffplay.exe is included in every standard FFmpeg download.
How do I save my favourite stations?
Click the green "+ Add to My Stations" button in the station detail panel, or right-click any station in the search results. Saved stations appear in the My Stations tab where you can reorder them, remove them, or export the full list as an M3U8 playlist. Your stations are saved automatically to %APPDATA%\X-Radio-Stream-Finder\my_stations.json and persist across app restarts.
Can I use my existing radio playlists?
Yes. Click "Import M3U/PLS" in the My Stations tab toolbar to load any M3U, M3U8 or PLS playlist file. The app parses the stream URLs and station names and adds them to your My Stations list, skipping any duplicates that are already saved. This makes it easy to migrate playlists from VLC, Winamp, foobar2000 or any other player.
Where does the station data come from?
X Radio Stream Finder uses the Radio Browser API, a free and open community-maintained database of internet radio stations. The database contains over 35,000 active stations and is updated continuously. Station data includes name, country, language, genre tags, bitrate, codec and community vote count. No account or API key is required to use it.
